The familiar, and often formulaic, conventions of fantasy easily lend themselves to parody. Comic fantasy is highly self-referential, playing with genre expectations and extending them to a preposterous limit. It is suffused with a sense of play, with a number of 'in-jokes' to the fantasy reader, and the frequent use of puns and other wordplay. Comic fantasy is often satirical as well, both of the non-magical mundane world and of the magical worlds of epic fantasy and classic legend. See also: Fantasy
